“This three day Foundation course will provide you with a sound understanding of the PRINCE2 components and process model and will prepare you for sitting the PRINCE2 Foundation Exam (1 hour multi-choice format) at the end of the course. Exercises are used throughout this course to reinforce learning. Exercise sessions account for approximately 20% of the course.

For those wishing to also sit the PRINCE2 Practitioner Exam, this course can be followed by a two-day PRINCE2 Practitioner Course focused on practical application, further coverage of the PRINCE2 techniques and preparation for sitting the PRINCE2 Practitioner Exam. This exam will be sat on the afternoon of day 2 of this course.”

The trainer was speaking relatively fast, and his voice was a bit low and soft, hard to compete with the air con in the room.

Consdering this was the first public 2017 PRINCE2 course and therefore required updated course notes/presentation/trainer skills I think it was very effective. Trainer was professional, had a calm manner and very eloquent.

Overall I thought the course was run well. However, I believe that more could be done during the foundation course in terms of scene setting - It would have been helpful if the A3 page outlining the PRINCE2 processes and outputs from the different project stages was a starting basis for understanding PRINCE2. This made it easier to visualise PRINCE2 as a holistic method. While I appreciate that breaking it up into separate parts makes it easier to learn the concept, it made it harder to see the relationship between individual components.

For some portions of the course, the trainer just read through the slides. For those parts I would have learned better if reading it on my own - thinking about something just read was difficult because the trainer was reading the next bit; so I had no real opportunity to integrate the information.

I thought the final practitioner's exam was quite poorly worded. Throughout the exam a given character was reffered to by name, by job title and also by project management position. I spend far too much time going back in the scenario descriptions and additional information to try remember who was who. It's a PM exam not a memory exam. Was quite frustrating.

In the sign up it is a bit misleading that it asks for dietary requirements, however no lunch is provided. Another attendee and I planned our week accordingly and did not buy enough food on the weekend to provide lunch for the whole week. Suggest deleting dietary requirements from sign up form. Secondly, the course facilitator went through all the aspects very quickly, which was required because there is so much detail in PRINCE2. It is good that he asked that people with English as a second language ask him to slow down if he speaks too quick. As a native english speaker I sometimes struggled to follow because he spoke too quickly.

The presenter was excellent, the only thing I would have liked would be the inclusion of some small quizes each day or every now and again to refresh what you have learnt and to prepare you for the language style of the final test. To me that would assist greatly in the learning curve. Cheers

The level of information and detail was significant in the training course to provide a thorough understanding of the PRINCE2 methodology. I enjoyed the course and this detailed level of information taught. However, if possible, I would have liked the details linked back to the main headings/sub headings a bit more often just to help reinforce the knowledge required at Exam level.

Faciliator (Tren) was excellent. The course material is required to be delivered at a very fast pace, which does, from time to time, make learning a little challenging. Having said that, Tren provided many opportunities to reflect back our learning/ ask questions which "compensated for" the speed.

I need to see the big picture of what I am learning, I couldn't see on the first two days how all the little pieces of information fitted together. (then I sat down and worked it out, and was able to show it to the class, which I think helped another few people).

overall a good course , however sitting a test is only really for the course evaluation and how much information you are able to retain given we are provided with a manual and course information. Some people get very stressed ( like me) and this can effect your pass mark. Unfortunately for me I missed out which leaves you very deflated .

Presenter was excellent. Course material is of high value, if a little in need of an update for look and feel. I particularly valued Tren's focus on customisation, which made the material feel less daunting. Courses of comparable value normally include catering. Most people left site during the lunch breaks, which limited the networking opportunities that make courses feel like great value. The class size was also quite large, which meant we had trouble fitting into the one room of the joint room. Spreading into the second room would have made a pleasant change. The class had varying skills levels, which meant some basic material had to be covered in greater depth, which was fine. I would certainly recommend the course.

Gerry was an excellent course presenter - very patient and clearly articulated examples and reasons behind them. It would have been beneficial to have the text book in advance as I was not across any of the terminology for PRINCE2 so did not have any knowledge walking in. It took a while to get my head around the themes, principles and processes. Course material available a week or so early would have been great.

Information about the course could be improved to ensure it is clearly understood that the course is solely focused on the PRINCE2 method, principles and processes and in most cases therefore only useful for people already familiar with projects (eg. management, tools, activities etc).

The training material and trainer were very good. I wouldn't recommend the course because of the room - it was really stuffy, too hot and the chairs were uncomfortable - which made the learning experience harder than it needed to be and not very pleasant. in addition, kitchen facilities were sub-standard for the number of people. I think the multiple choice exam needs to be thought through. Often it tests people capacity to interpret complex grammar rather than their understanding of project management. Also, given that the department does not generally support participation in the practitioner training, perhaps you could design a bit more of a hands-on, possibly somewhat longer, course.

The course materials could have been more engaging if an instructional approach that involved more activities was used. Having an exam on the same day as material is presented limits the amount of study that can be done, though anyone that paid attention should expect at least a pass. Having periodic review questions (quizzes) every few hours might be a good way to keep people fresh.

Perhaps more group work. I understand speaking about each slide is useful for auditory learners however what about either more homework or time in course to read the slides then ask questions re those slides. Meaning the trainer does not have to talk specifically about each slide. It was a lot of talk listen.

It would have been much easier to absorb the volume of information covered if there were some pre reading materials so that people could be familiar with the terms and already have a bit of a feel. The exam caused pressure. I also needed two days off work following the course due to getting a sore back from the seats. I don't suffer any back problems so I was surprised to find I was sore by the third day. It seemed the focus of the course was to pass the exam as opposed to really understanding the Prince 2 method and being able/confident to apply it in real life examples.

I dont believe the time period provided for the delivery of this much information is adequate. Although the lecturer knew his subject material to an excellent standard, he appeared to have to rush the material in order to meet the syllabus timeframes. I would suggest that the PRINCE2 foundation should be conducted over a four day period to afford time to undertake more revision and questioning, although I realise this would prevent foundation and practitioner courses occurring within the same week.

It would be great to tailor examples to likely scenarios that participants will experience - appreciate this is difficult with mix classes but it would be possible when delivering a course like the one I was on which was limited to PM&C staff. It would be worthwhile requesting a meeting with the Department prior to support this tailoring. You could also provide examples as to how Prince2 could relate to a 'typical' policy development / implementation scenarios and support better policy development / programme implementation across government.

It would have been beneficial to have examples throughout the course that were pertinent to our work - so knowing we were from PMC it would have been great to have examples provided/discussed by the presenter that were relevant to government departments. The course moves at a very fast pace, but Tren managed this very well. Perhaps some pre reading could be recommended to make things a bit easier for participants? Consensus - It tests wrote learning of the Prince2 text but doesn't seem to test understanding of principles, but most recognise the limitations of the time provided The foundation course test - leads off with a statement there are no trick questions and the presenter qualified it with "there will be 1 right answer and 3 very wrong answers" nice words but quite simply very wrong , and yes no problem debating this at length !!! typical structure 2 very wrong answers and 2 answers do appear to be right , but one is more right. Just dribble on my part ? after the test people in my group where going whoa ," first 10 questions" , "just didn't seem to make sense" ,"I had to make guesses" these were intelligent people taking the course and test seriously , I made the comment they have picked on grey areas and in trying to make an answer more correct the question becomes clumsy and difficult to understand, there was strong agreement with that comment then most agreed after the first 10 questions things seem to make more sense , the people on my course seemed to be getting high 40's low 50's so don't if that puts us in the Prince idiot category or not. The multi choice quizz is a game with words to test if we listened to the presentation and did some amount of reading. Another thing widely agreed is it would be very difficult for people who English isn't there first language . Appreciate the problem , the people that review questions and answers have seen much of that stuff before , are too close to the subject matter etc . Overall course content and delivery(by Gerry a walking Prince2 encyclopaedia) very good and that is nit picking around the test and a few statements made around the test. No problems with discussing further Neil Schmahl 02 6121 8619 or seeing as I'm on Marcus Clarke street discussing over coffee cheers Neil

i found this course not engaging enough, as someone without prior project experience and someone that has done ITIL i feel there should have been an exercise at the end of each module so you can absorb the information better rather than listen to a course presenter for 7 hours (which gets very tiresome). I also think the course should be slightly more expensive and incorporate a provided lunch for students.

The course is very good at providing an overview of the Prince2 framework, which is what is required to pass the exams. A more detailed course (possibly over a longer time period, with tutorial-style classes) applying the framework to detailed case studies would be good for building practical knowledge. Not sure whether that would be commercially viable, as I'd assume the majority of participants are mainly looking for the qualification. Also, it would be helpful for attendees' time management if the homework aspect of the course was communicated upfront. As a comment on the presenter, Tren's practical and theoretical knowledge was excellent, his presentation style was engaging and when he encountered some robust questioning from a difficult participant he handled it in a very courteous and professional manner.

During the week in question, I was unable to do homework and would not have booked in for that particular week had I known that in advance. Further, the exam for the practitioner course was confusing, I found it considerably difficult to determine what some of the questions were asking - some were very confusing indeed. He was very experienced, being able to translate the material into examples from both the private and public sector; he knew the process back-to-front and inside out, being able to unpack our random questions often provocative challenges and work them through the process; he tailored his delivery to the audience and was always willing to go down a rabbit hole to ensure we understood; and to top it off, he was funny!. Participants could use a lot more very short breaks to stretch. It is inhuman to sit for such long periods without at least standing up for a minute to stretch. My body was wrecked at the end of each day and this had an accumulative effect also. A real sour point in this delivery of a good course. Opportunities for participants to work on a current or upcoming project would have added to our learning and ability to tailor and apply PRINCE2 'tomorrow'. Stucturing content in relation to PRINCE2 themes added a layer of complexity to the training, that had little relationship to our actual conduct of projects in the work situation - the themes may underpin the model, but requiring participants to memorise this took away from their ability to apply the processes to their workplace project examples.

The assessment, though necessary, was anxiety provoking, and I really did not think I would pass because I did not have the capacity to take in all the information. The stationary pack was fabulous, but the highlighter was of poor quality and did not last even the first day. The book could be sent to participants to read before attending the course to get an understanding before sitting in the class. Maybe options need to be provided for training that caters to people's learning styles ie I would've prefered it be stagered as I really need to conceptualise the information to ensure learning outcomes are met.

Perhaps this course should be a 4 day course to cover the extend of information.

I thought the course was good. But the only issue I had was the mention of passing the exam everytime each topic was discussed. I guess there was too much pressure on passing the exam.

The room was quite hot. One could feel the difference in temperature as soon as stepping out of the door. This makes it hard to follow the instructor in the afternoon. The fan added to the distraction not providing any relief. Apparently people sitting along the side adjacent to the other room could hear voises from the room next door. This also made following the instructor very difficult. Personnally, the heat in the room and the noises outside during exam time made me feel quite sick. It was pure luck I could complete the paper and passed the exam.

The only negative was that the room was very warm. The air-conditioning wasn't working properly

The exam tended to distract from the learning by forcing limits discussion beyond the Syllabus. But the exam does focus your attention on the course information.

Regarding Question 10 "Coffee cups" - what coffee cups? None were provided! Not that that is important.

The air-con in the room needs to improved.

The climate control in the room was ineffective. Hot days, lots of windows and one small pedestal fan doesn't really do the job. Unnecessary negative in a generally good experience.

We were told that we would be notified if we passes on the Wednesday afternoon, and we left our mobile numbers. We were told we could wait, or we would be notified. 3/11 participants did not find out until they arrived in the morning

It would be useful if you made it clear that there is a decent body of selfstudy required in the week. I already had stuff on in the evenings so I copped a couple of late nights to deal with it. Maybe it is on your website somewhere but if so, I missed it.
