The stars are aligning for PMI Power Talks: 18th July

You’ll have to wait until the year 2040 to see Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, Venus and Mercury occupy the same part of the sky.    However, if you don’t want to wait another 24 years, there’s an equally impressive gathering of planetary-sized portfolio brains aligning on the 18th July, at the inaugural PMI Power Talks in London.

What is the PMI Power Talk?

It’s a new quarterly event curated by the PMI UK Chapter, think of a TED Talk inspired afternoon that zooms in on one theme each event, this first event on the 18th July is all about “Strategy Execution and Portfolio Management”.

How does it work?

It starts at lunchtime, you’ll be fed and then you get to see four talks from leading thinkers in the global project portfolio management industry.  Each speaker session will last for 20 minutes followed by a 10-minute audience collaboration session.  Then to wrap the day up we have a panel q&a followed by drinks and more networking.

Physical attendance is restricted to an intimate 50, which is invitation only for senior executives.  However the whole event will be live streamed so everyone can watch and benefit from the talks.

Who’s going to be there:

When I said about planets aligning, this really is the case with the people we have speaking because we are seldom all in the same country at the same time, let alone the same room.

Here’s the set list:

Steve Jenner:  One of my favourite people in the industry and the number one brain in the world of Benefits Management.  He’s written too many books to list on this subject, one of which he co-authored with me – Management of Portfolios (MoP).

Steve Butler:  Steve is Head of International Portfolio Management Office at Old Mutual Wealth as well as a member of the core committee for the PMI Standard for Portfolio Management.  Steve also helped set up PMI’s portfolio management certification.

Antonio Nieto-Rodriguez:  Chairman of PMI, Director of PMO at GlaxoSmithKline Vaccines and professor at the executive education school Duke CE.  Hugely experienced with setting up global portfolio management offices and author of The Focused Organization.

Dave Gunner:  Top man at HP responsible for the Project & Programme Management Academy (10,000 project managers worldwide).  Dave is the Chair for the PMI’s Navigating complexity guide and regular speaker at PMI Global Congress.

Oh, and then there’s me…I’m not talking at this one as I’m MC for the afternoon which should be fun.

In addition to all this, we have a great group of people organizing and sponsoring this event too.  PMI UK are running the show led by Yohan Abrahams (PMI UK President), then from a sponsorship perspective we have Nadine Rochester of TwentyEighty Strategy Execution and – two brands that are dedicated to developing our professional project management industry.

This is going to be a unique and great event, so I look forward to seeing you there in person or virtually.
